about

This was another Modern Arts and Crafts song that never got performed. We wrote it on the full moon, which came up blood red, and the original title was "Red Moon Rising" before we realized that it sounded like we were singing about menstruation. It never seemed to go anywhere as a song, but that little singsong "la da da da" would really get stuck in my head, so I eventually got my ass in gear and wrote the bridge/coda part that comes at the end and it started to make sense. In my mind, the little jammy riff that fades out at the very end was going to turn into a ten minute feedback freakout, but I got vetoed.

lyrics

Event Horizon

Event horizon pulls the tides in/the waves are felt/across Orion’s belt/and it blinds him/sucks our lives in/hollows out the stitch of doubt/to a singularity/one day/of infinite density////
Time is static, light is aquatic/our thoughts athirst/for the final burst/of blinding, light arriving/following after the first/of all singularities/one day/of infinite destiny////
All our lives are standing still and we’re awaiting something/seems we’ve been here once before/there’s a note on the door and I can remember the lightning////
Create a perfect nation/in your vanity/where beauty is just wasted on the young/let every shining star/in your galaxy/collapse beneath the weight of the setting sun/I’ll be what you want to see in me/I’ll do what you want me to/ain’t it true girl?/You girl!/Yo girl!/Go girl!////

The Great Speckled Fritillary Vancouver, British Columbia

The lovely butterfly-dragons of Sona-Nyl are insectoid creatures with beautifully-patterned wings, insect-like legs and long, curved necks and tails. These creatures feed solely on nectar, fragrant odours and silence. If threatened, a butterfly-dragon responds by emitting a rose-coloured mist from glands along the sides of its body. Anyone inhaling or even touching this mist goes deaf. ... more
