about

Yet another of the many dream-inspired songs in the Frit canon. This one comes from a dream I had where former Frit member Marie Sulkowski ran up to me at an alien flea market (all the people running stalls had vegetable heads) with a copy of a record called "Marveltine, or The Midnight Ocean" by a group named The Valiant Mockingbirds. The cover of the album is pretty much identical to the cover of Vol. 2, except the perspective of the little town is from someone riding in a fishing boat with the waves coming up over the side. The "intergalactic ship sublime" is the titular Silver Rocket made from a trashcan in Vol 1.

Marveltine, or The Midnight Ocean by The Valiant Mockingbirds

Hyperdramatic overdrive/system shock survival/we’re gonna shake shamanic suicide/celebrate survival/Yo! Psychic sister, save your mister/swallow sound emotion/we’re Marveltine magnificent/we sail the midnight ocean!////
My intergalactic ship sublime/the silver sun reflecting/I never ever wanna come down again/should secrets seek selecting/you’re the one that I’m in love with/set this wheel in motion/when all are gone, here’s a lonely song/we sail the midnight ocean!////

The Great Speckled Fritillary Vancouver, British Columbia

These creatures feed solely on nectar, fragrant odours and silence. If threatened, a butterfly-dragon responds by emitting a rose-coloured mist from glands along the sides of its body. Anyone inhaling or even touching this mist goes deaf. ... more
