about

Silver, gold and amber frequently pop up in lyrics surrounding this band (see our early single "Botox Coriander," as do allusions to the game of chess. I'll leave you to guess at the symbolism there. I wrote this song during my great fascination with the chords C and F major, which became an almost unhealthy obsession when I was just starting to figure out how to make songs. "Cry the heart to chain us/but we're going fast away" is like one of my favorite lyrics I've yet written, but I couldn't tell you what's implied there, it just sounds really nice to me.

lyrics

Ride On

Where the bishop? Where the pawn?/Just whose side is the captain on?/Here we walk beside you/and all you know is light/ride on!////
Will we ride wild horses home/after the battle’s lost and won?/It taught me hard to wonder, if God was in my mind/ride on!////
Just watch where you’re going through the crowd/they’ll piss on anyone who dares/to hold their head up proud/so cry the heart to chain us/but we’re going fast away/I’d come along, but I came home yesterday////
Where have all the castles gone, that silver, gold and amber shone?/Now they’re far behind you, and all you own is love/ride on!////
O, Queen of worlds not yet begun/you break the starlight with the sun/but you brought as all to realize/that all we are is light/ride on!////

about

The Great Speckled Fritillary Vancouver, British Columbia

The lovely butterfly-dragons of Sona-Nyl are insectoid creatures with beautifully-patterned wings, insect-like legs and long, curved necks and tails. These creatures feed solely on nectar, fragrant odours and silence. If threatened, a butterfly-dragon responds by emitting a rose-coloured mist from glands along the sides of its body. Anyone inhaling or even touching this mist goes deaf. ... more
